Retaining Walls
Turn a difficult slope into usable, good-looking space.
Retaining walls that hold a grade, drain the right way, and make room for a level lawn, a patio, or raised beds, engineered so they stay put for good.
What we build
A wall is only as good as what's behind it
A retaining wall holds back tons of soil and water, so what you can't see matters more than the face. The walls that fail, the ones that bulge, lean, and crack, almost always failed because of drainage and base, not the block. Water builds up behind them and pushes until something gives.
We build walls the way they're meant to be built: a compacted base, proper backfill with drainage stone and pipe to relieve water pressure, and the right reinforcement for the height. The result holds its line and turns a slope you couldn't use into level, usable ground.
- Segmental block and natural stone walls
- Engineered drainage and backfill behind the wall
- Reinforcement sized to the wall height
- Terracing and raised beds on steep grades
- Built by an ICPI-certified crew

Function and looks
Solving a problem and improving the yard
Most retaining walls start as a problem: a slope that erodes, a grade that won't drain, or space that's just unusable. Solved well, that same wall becomes one of the best features in the yard, creating a level lawn, a spot for a patio, or terraced beds that add real depth to the landscape.
Because we design and build the whole thing, the wall works structurally and looks like it belongs. We match the stone to your home and tie in plantings and grading so it reads as part of the landscape, not just an engineering fix.
- Creates level, usable space from a slope
- Stops erosion and standing water
- Matched to your home and plantings

Retaining wall questions we hear a lot
A few of the things homeowners ask before a retaining wall project.
Why do some retaining walls fail?
Almost always drainage and base, not the block. Water builds up behind a wall and pushes until it bulges or leans. We build with proper drainage stone, pipe, and backfill to relieve that pressure, plus a compacted base and the right reinforcement for the height.
What are the walls made of?
Usually segmental concrete block or natural stone, chosen to match your home and the look you want. Both are excellent when the wall behind the face is built correctly.
Do I need a permit or engineering for a tall wall?
Taller walls can require engineering and permits depending on the town and height. We'll tell you what your project needs and handle the details, so it's done right and to code.
Can a wall create usable space?
That's often the whole point. A retaining wall can turn a slope into a level lawn, a patio pad, or terraced planting beds, adding usable, good-looking space where there wasn't any.
How do I get started?
Request a consultation and we'll set up an on-site visit. We look at the grade and drainage, talk through what you want the space to do, and put together a plan and written price. No pressure and no email required.
